A4 pencil on cartrige paper 3 July, 2009 no references
Last year I did a series of chibi character portraits for my Dungeons and Dragons group while I was working in telemarketing. It was a handy distraction from the horrible job. I did consider setting up a small painting easle in my cubicle but I figured that might be pushing my luck. Well now I'm staying at my parent's place. It is cramped and uncomfortable with no room to set up a painting easle. Looks like a good time to break out the pencils again and do a new set of character portraits.
Catherine was only ten when the group first encountered her. She was sticking up "lost" posters around the dockside markets to try to find her dad and was about to get mugged (and possibly worse) by a group of orcs when the PCs came to her aid. They rescued her father from being stuck as a statue the rest of his life and then had to pay the gallery for damages and loss of revenue. The group promised Catherine that she could join them on an adventure when she grew up.
Later in their quest, the group found themselves caught in a time wrinkle, being attacked by demons from the future who were vastly beyond their level. The demons aparently had been sent back in time to kill the players before they got too powerful. A fully grown Catherine of epic level followed the demons through the portal and saved the characters, giving a few hints to future relationships but mostly keeping her mouth shut. She, unfortunately, was also followed by creatures that had become a plague in her time. To save the characters and prevent the plague beginning early, she sacrificed herself and collapsed a mineshaft on top of her, closing the time wrinkle.
When the party finally escaped the mine and the time wrinkle, they discovered that in the few hours they'd been in the mine, seven years had passed on the surface. On their way back to town they met a teenage Catherine who'd been patiently awaiting their return and had been diligently training herself as an archer. She has been a valuable member of the group ever since.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
